'Fighter' Beckham dreams of recall

LONDON, England -- Former England captain David Beckham believes he can re-establish himself in the national team despite plying his trade in Major League Soccer with Los Angeles Galaxy.

Beckham, 31, was cast aside by new coach Steve McClaren after England's World Cup exit and it was widely believed that his big money move from Real Madrid to California would finally bring down the curtain on his international ambitions.

But Beckham, now playing a starring role after being recalled to the Real Madrid team, is undaunted, believing he can "perform at a high level" for another three or four years.

"Whether I get the chance to play for England again is not my decision but I'm a fighter and if I get that chance again I'll take it," he told the Sun tabloid. "I will never retire from England, never."

Beckham, who has 94 caps, also harbors ambitions to play for his country at the new Wembley Stadium, which is due to open late this year.

"I remember talking before the World Cup about wanting to play for England at the new Wembley. "That is still in my dreams. In reality we'll have to wait and see. It's not down to me, it's one for the manager."

The midfielder revealed that the decision to join the Galaxy in a £128 million deal, was entirely his, and his wife Victoria -- who also used to be "Posh" with the Spice Girls -- only wanted what was best for him and their three sons.

"Going to Los Angeles is absolutely my decision. I drove it all."

Beckham also echoed comments made by his wife earlier this week, insisting that he and his family live much more docile lives than British tabloids portray.

He told The Sun: "People have said we're going because we're affected by the Hollywood glitz. But I'm not sure that, as a family, we actually enjoy that side of it."

"The perception is we love the red carpets and parties and being in the limelight -- but the reality is we don't."

Beckham is being tipped for a return to the England team later this month.
