LONDON, England (CNN) -- An Iraqi doctor appeared in court Saturday on charges linked to the failed car bomb plots in London and the Scottish city of Glasgow.
Bilal Abdulla was taken into custody June 30 at Glasgow Airport.
Bilal Abdulla, a 27-year-old doctor born in Britain and raised in Iraq, was charged with conspiring to cause explosions after he and another man allegedly crashed a gas-laden Jeep Cherokee outside the main terminal of Scotland's largest airport a week ago.
Abdulla spoke only to confirm his name and birth date at Westminster magistrates court. His next court appearance was set for July 27. His lawyers did not ask for bail.
The charge, which specifies that the conspiracy began around the first of January 2007 and concluded at the start of this month, accused Abdulla of conspiring "with others to cause explosions of a nature likely to endanger life or cause serious injury to property in the United Kingdom."
No charges have yet been announced for seven other people, including other doctors, who have been arrested. E-mail to a friend
