The United Nations has warned of a humanitarian crisis unfolding in Syria’s northwest province of Idlib, as hospitals and schools are bombed by Syrian forces aided by Russia. Western powers have challenged Syria and its ally Russia to provide assurances that attacks on hospitals and schools will stop, while the UN secretary-general warned that a full-scale battle in Idlib “would unleash a humanitarian nightmare unlike any we have seen in Syria” to date. Now, the UN says, its “worst fears are coming true.”
