Two months after sacking the PM and suspending parliament, President Saied faces major protests.

Tunisia’s political and constitutional crisis began in July this year when President Kais Saied sacked the prime minister, suspended parliament and assumed executive power.

Saied insisted his actions did not constitute a coup and said the measures would only last 30 days.

Two months on, he still has neither named a new prime minister nor revealed plans for reform. Saied has also extended his powers until further notice.

On Saturday, protesters angry at the president faced supporters who insisted Saied was carrying out the people’s will.
